Asthma Right Care Update November 2021

03 Nov 2021

Our Asthma Right Care social movement continues to grow with over 17 countries now involved.

Recent initiatives include:-

  • Latin American Teach the Teacher programme in 8 countries.  Our IPCRG Spanish and Portuguese speaking master faculty is working online with 3-5 leaders recruited from 8 countries in the “Tier 1” master teacher programme.  The country master teachers will then create a Tier 2 programme in their country, recruiting and teaching a cohort of national teachers.  In Tier 3, they will teach frontline primary care.
  • Five free teaching case studies created by our Asthma Right Care Delivery Team are now open access: these illustrate Asthma Right Care in different situations including management of moderate asthma, someone with a “chest infection”, transition between child and adolescent care, someone with asthma attending the Emergency Department and a case of difficult to manage asthma. There is a demonstration video and PowerPoint slides for each.
  • Three initiatives with community pharmacists
    • Case study in collaboration with Grupo de Respiratorio en AtenciĆ³n primaria (GRAP), Sociedad EspaƱola de Farmacia Clinica, Familiar y Comunitaria (SEFAC), Local Spanish Colleges of Pharmacists: How Spanish pharmacists have improved their role in asthma management from supplying SABA without restriction to prescription-only dispensing,  led by Spanish pharmacist societies
    • Building on our webinars for community and hospital pharmacists in partnership with the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP)
    • E-learning for pharmacists in South Africa, Kenya and Ghana
  • New video content – Fun short Silent Movie films for Emergency Departments in Spanish, English, French and Italian to make the case for action on over-reliance on SABA
