New IPCRG Research School: An introduction to implementation science studies in primary care

24 Apr 2025

The IPCRG Research School on implementation science studies in primary care was a great success, with 19 people from a range of countries taking part and learning from a mix of theory and small group critical appraisal of studies. We have received very positive reviews and would like to again thank the excellent faculty of experts who led the school in Brașov, after the 8th IPCRG Scientific Meeting.

Following the introductory webinar, the in-person school aimed to build capacity in primary care respiratory research by providing interactive and hands-on training.  Many experienced researchers are unfamiliar with implementation science frameworks and so we aimed to fulfil a need for all career stages to explain the theoretical frameworks, reporting and then to apply thinking to a critical appraisal of papers.  This was a great opportunity to gain a solid understanding of the principles of this important piece of primary care research and we are confident that this will help build primary care respiratory research capacity for the future.

The Research School included an introductory session led by Ee Ming Khoo asking what people thought implementation science was, a detailed overview of implementation study designs, frameworks, context and types of evidence presented by Rianne van der Kleij, a practically-oriented introduction to the StaRI reporting standards from Hilary Pinnock, and a hands-on workshop where groups critically appraised papers to bring together learning from the course, facilitated by Amanda Farley and the other faculty members.

We look forward to the next research school and the many other educational events coming up in the IPCRG calendar.
