Two sides of the same coin: policy and education in asthma management - IPCRG at 2025 Asthma Stakeholder Virtual Meeting

28 Oct 2025

IPCRG joined GINA and GAAPP stakeholders at 2025 Asthma Stakeholder Virtual Meetings “Two sides of the same coin: policy and education in asthma management” on 1 October reviewing the adoption of GINA Track 1 ICS-formoterol AIR & MART asthma management and the policy changes and education needs that could help to accelerate adoption.

The meeting showed the benefits of collaboration and the excellent tools and leaders contributed by IPCRG. IPCRG colleagues Amanda Barnard, Siân Williams and Katherine Hickman spoke on Asthma Right Care and the power of conversation to engage and spark system and culture change to move towards right care. They explained the need to create discomfort with the present state to pique curiosity about alternatives, and how tools like the Question & Challenge Cards are designed to facilitate this.

Panellists also discussed the risks of SABA overuse, the need to consider unintended consequences of well-meaning policy and the challenges faced in emergency departments. An important point made was the key role of clinicians as agents of change - at an individual, practice and policy level - and the need to be as precise with words as with numbers to support behaviour change.
