Teach the Teacher update: December 2023

18 Dec 2023

Our Asthma Right Care Teach the Teacher programme improves primary care teaching capacity and develops the confidence and competence of frontline HCPs to deliver the right care for adults with asthma. We are happy to share updates on Asthma Right Care Teach the Teacher from our teams in Brazil, Mexico, North Macedonia and Spain in 2023.

  • Through a programme of teaching 5 new national asthma leaders and 24 new national teachers in 8 regions, our colleagues in GRESP Brazil have run a public engagement programme, and a primary care education progamme in person and online including over 50 activities, teaching over 800 primary care practitioners who will be reporting back on their progress
  • In Mexico, members of the IPCRG network have trained 4 national leaders and 12 regional teachers covering 8 regions. These teachers have reached 1000 practitioners in person and 3500 virtually, with demand for repeat sessions in 2024.
  • Colleagues in North Macedonia are rolling out Teach the Teacher for pharmacists, and trained a team of 16 pharmacists teachers to roll out the project more widely. This has enabled a regional workshop covering in 19 towns which successfully trained 400 primary care pharmacists in just a few months.
  • In Spain, both a Teach the Teacher pharmacist programme and a first national Asthma Right Care conference have enabled GRAP colleagues  to reach primary care in 5 more regions over the course of Q4 2023 offering fun, practical sessions to improve practice.

See below for some testimonials from attendees at the Brazilian workshops.

"I started to organise my care better after the course; I started to use the monitoring tools and the action plan"
"The multidisciplinary perspective of the tutors was very helpful in discussing the cases"
"It was important to learn about the reality of asthma care and the difficulties in other places…we all have the same barriers"
