Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week: A Call to Action

IPCRG is delighted to showcase the work of our member organisation in Bangladesh, Bangladesh Primary Care Respiratory Group (BPCRS), during its inaugural Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week.

During PuRe week, BPCRS has called for:

  • A nationwide Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PuRe) Forum to advocate for PR and to become a knowledge hub
  • Doctors to learn more about PR
  • Implementation of PR in the primary care practice - either by referral to centres or to develop their own centre.

BPCRS has previously identified the need to connect with people with the power to enable the growth of PR in Bangladesh. During PuRe week, as they have travelled the country, they have had significant success in senior figures in health attending their presentations and committing to the development of centres. It helps when BPCRS members are the first choice physicians for senior figures!

They have been questioned about the cost and cost-effectiveness of PR. While there are no Bangladesh studies, there is no reason why the global evidence about PR's impact on reducing hospitalisations, reliance on drugs and increasing activity and participation in society should not apply. They were also asked about availability and encouraged to commit to increasing it!
