The International Primary Care Respiratory Group (IPCRG) is a clinically-led charitable organisation. Our scope is research and education to improve prevention, diagnosis and care of respiratory diseases in global community and primary care settings.

What we do

Education

We extend academic learning into communities, in line with the Lancet Commission on Education. We develop global collaborative networks for mutual strengthening, lead the promotion of a culture of critical inquiry and public reasoning about the best ways to deliver effective respiratory care and the best ways to educate the public and professionals about respiratory health.  Flagship programmes include multi-national capacity strengthening through Teach the Teacher and e-learning.

Research

We conduct primary care respiratory research and collaborate with partners on large international projects; facilitate research through networking and our small grants programme; and build capacity through research schools and mentoring . We offer opportunities to share research through our scientific meeting and world conferences that run in alternate years and through our journal, npj Primary Care Respiratory Medicine. Primary care respiratory research priorities are laid out in our 2021 paper.

The Asthma Right Care slide rule

Asthma Right Care

IPCRG is applying the evidence of social movements for health to raise awareness of the need for change in asthma care, and offering a vision of right care; Asthma Right Care is now in 17 countries engaging clinical and patient stakeholders in bottom-up programmes.

COPD Right Care

In 2021, the IPCRG initiated COPD Right Care that follows the principles of Asthma Right Care movement; mobilising stakeholders in a movement for change to right diagnosis and care for people with COPD.

Check our animated video to help patients improve their “breathing literacy.” It will help your patients understand how we breathe, how we get #breathless, and what happens to the good and bad particles that we breathe in. https://t.co/rKAW4jGB0C @BTSrespiratory @GlobalHealthRe2 https://t.co/MSMvr1UBN5

Earlier diagnosis of #COPD can improve a patient's quality of life, slow lung function decline, and reduce symptom burden. When undiagnosed, it can lead to severe health issues such as pneumonia, exacerbations, and premature death. Learn more at https://t.co/KFk1cPiYeX https://t.co/kzWts4Gcx0
